Danube Bulgarian Cuisine

By A. Curatolo

Danube is the name of the largest river in Europe that flows through Rafi, the owner’s hometown. This not only explains the origin of the name of the restaurant but it also explains the décor, which is something that could be found at a seaside restaurant.  Danube opens at 11:30 until 2:30pm for lunch.  Everyday dinner is from 5-10 pm.  Danube is six months old and awaiting its license so it is suggested to bring your own wine and beer.

The garish cake consists of Bulgarian chocolate and walnuts.  The chef is Rafi’s mother.  Let’s give Rafi a round of applause and well wishes.  This is his first restaurant as well as the first Bulgarian restaurant in Los Angeles.  It has many regional influences such as Greek, Italian, and Mediterranean yet it still has its own twang.  By the way, if you have not smelled Bulgarian Rose oil you are in for a brain rush.  Remember, at this location you will have to imagine Westwood Blvd as the Danube flowing by this sweet place…
