K'ya Restaurant and Bar

La Casa del Camino

By A. Curatolo

The atmosphere at K’ya is rather diligent during these winter months when the ocean fog rolls in reminding us of cozy short winter days.  An art gallery, shops and beautiful homes are all K’ya’s neighbors.  This is a great place to dine alone at the bar.  You’ll make friends quickly and if you don’t feel like dining you can check into a love room.  The hotel has thirty-eight rooms and has been standing since 1927—two years before the Great Depression…yeah it lasted.  K’ya on the other hand, is at the young impressionable age of four.  I am excited to see it grow.  Two delicate women at the bar say that they would prefer 1930’s romantic movies instead of hockey, describing it as “obnoxious”.  This is a great Saturday night to fly high in the atmosphere of K’ya.

The perfectly mellow staff is intricately knitted as one.  They are dedicated to one another as a family and their harmony creates tranquil music, which is good for digestion as it makes you eat more slowly. James is a handsome bartender that will make any lady tip extra and Dean, the food and beverage director is truly professional.  “There isn’t a time when I’m not ready”, he says.  He has been a close friend with the chef for twenty-five years.

K’ya proudly presents an Asian fusion cuisine.  Craig Connole was a chef at the Ritz in Maui for six years.  I am honored and privileged to indulge in Craig’s culinary creations due to the major awards that he has received in Vegas for four years.  Luckily for my tongue, he is back home in Laguna.  Tonight I am receiving soup, salad and an entrée that is very handsomely stacked with mushrooms and asparagus in a cilantro sauce with Thai sticky rice.  I enjoy Cask Cab, 2003 with my vegetable deluxe entrée.  Descriptive words?  Clean, spicy, creative and vegetarian.  All of this poetry is woven together in a restaurant that is primary fish.

This vegetable deluxe entrée is topped off with my choice of a very vivid vegan desert.  Think about Chocolate Fondue with fruit, Rice Krispy squares, or a peanut butter filmed pretzel with strawberries, pineapples and pears dancing on your tongue.  Festive Laguna is back!  K’ya has simple organic food but don’t let the simplicity fool you.  It…is…good.

The Roof Lounge—Bar at Casa Resorts

The Roof Lounge is a fun place to simply celebrate life.  It has a view that captivates the eyes and mind, which in turn is released into the atmosphere.   This lounge is pretty HOT for it to be December and let the record show that there is more than lounging going on in here.  Bartender, Alexis Schwartz is a Taures and her birthday is May 16.  She skillfully paints a smile on your face. She has a drink called ‘Stuff in a Cup’, sorry, she is not giving up the recipe.  It is so popular in Laguna that people go to other bars asking for it and the bartenders come begging at the Roof Lounge humbly asking, “How do you make it?”

My part of the Earth is rumbling and I begin to think of the two people that are in this world.  There are those who get it and those who don’t.  As for now, I sit in K’ya with a party in my pants at which an invitation is needed to get inside to undergo the best view South of L.A.

I rate this place Super Cool!
