The Laurel Inn is young in an old area of San Francisco (Presidio). There is a bit more play on color than many of the hotels, a step towards contemporary. Outside of that the hotel is basic: no robes, no slippers, no spa, and in my room, just a shower with standard low ceilings.
One live plant on my desk is a plus towards nature in an urban environment; basic, yet comfortable enough that I was inspired to take a nap. My room - a view of one tree, some backyards and white roof below. Look further, you have a good piece of the San Francisco skyline looking towards Nob Hill.
This is walking distance to a lot of interesting places. The black elevator with fresh flowers, organic coffee with coffee mate and processed white sugar. The zip of the interior designer overlooked the sustenance of the individual. Charge for the internet? No vibe lobby but comfy bed and above normal cotton sheets and pillows. They allow dogs which I love. That really makes a world of difference in a minimalistic environment, get-and-go hotel like Laurel Inn.
