Mill Valley Inn

By A. Curatolo

It's winter today, a gust of pure Northern cold azure charges my nostrils.  There's something about Northern California air that is unique and makes me a captive audience with delight.  Mill Valley further adds exhilarating calm, smack right in the Red Woods.  Mill Valley Inn is not one, yet two.  The Creek House sits in the woods, The Mill Valley Inn sits slightly above the woods, a walking bridge connects both of them.  The Creek House has high ceilings, with a wide porch wrapped around with wicker chairs and tables; perfect for a writer/artist like myself looking over Silver Blue Creek.

It is low-key elegance at its best.  You feel the solitude, you feel welcomed in the solitude?translation: "make ya self at home".  Literally for your whole stay here you don't have to use your car.  There is hiking as far as you can go.  Just roll out of your bed and hit the trail? There are shops.  There are some people the locals need to learn how to smile and be hospitable again.  I hear in the 60's love abounded.  The message was clear "Love and Peace never go out of style".  There are remnants of this feeling in the surroundings that the 300-600 year old Red Wood forests hold captive.

I ask what the constant philosophy is about running an inn.  Gary Sterman, General Manager says it, plain and simple. "We are not in the hostility business; we are in the hospitality business.  From the very first conversation with our guest we take note of their requests and needs."

Large fluffy beds.  Fine linens, some country and Italian fabrics on the sofa and chairs.  This is not a TV watching environment so the TVs are, well, just a touch in the form of small?.Bath Tub big enough for two?.even bath salts to sooth your biked or hiked body.  Aveda soaps and creams all over the bathroom.  A gold tone hums my room from carpet, chairs, couches and walls.  The rooms are big-spacious enough to stretch and do yoga.  You see deer out your window.

Breakfast is in a large room that is big enough to be cozy, yet large enough to disappear along with a sweeping sun deck.  Inspirational view, cool way to start the day yes.
Just do your part?love it here.
