Plump Jack Cafe

By A. Curatolo

Lunch at Plumpjack is opulent.  Opulent is a Latin word which means free flowing.  The feeling here at Plumpjack is just that.  There is a group of beautiful 13 young ladies that look like they spent most of the morning getting ready just for lunch.  That is opulent.  That is beautiful…

The menu comes in a leather gold jacket with silver lettering that says Plumpjack.  The menu is simple with a dozen or so choices.  This is perfect for getting on with the fun.  The atmosphere is clubby with shades of understated green and platinum messages.  It is soothing like the sea and various colors of sea moss.  The gold light fixture sits right in the middle of the room.  It is the perfect adornment.  Perfect big pink and red Ecuadorian roses adorn each table.  The repetition of white tablecloths and roses with odd shaped chairs create a soothing visual entertainment. The three little thick glass bowls contains three rivers; Australian salt and lea salt, a volcanic salt from Hawaii, which is red and kosher salt.  I usually carry celtric salt with me.  It actually lowers blood pressure.  It also contains numerous minerals.

The General Manager, whose name is Rose, Further compliments you with utmost respect and hospitality.  Potato leek soap is cooked in the fire until they turn to charcoal at which it is cooked with vegetables that are reduced to charcoal.  This act is rare and time consuming.  How does it taste?  Well…just like a fireplace feels on a cold winter day.  The texture is opulent.  So far, every dish that I have had here is opulent—free flowing in that the chef felt free to “Create no constraints”.

My mood is whimsical in stating that I am free to be what I want to be.  Most of the staff has been here since Plumpjack opened.  This is a rarity in many establishments.  This is also another sign of being treated properly and letting the staff simply ‘Be’ so that they can do their jobs and serve opulently. Service is exactly what service means:  Duties working for another.

Breathe and let your roots go into the Earth as the ingredients are organic and the best that can be bought.  As far as wine goes, they have it all and Plumpjack wine store is a few doors down…

Contemporary California chef, James Syhabout has such a subtle sense of the cuisine he creates that at times, you relate so well to what you are eating that you may feel that you are in a semi happy dream.  The food is like the difference between just sex and making love.  It is definitely making love.  All you need is love.

Out of the five star restaurants, it is wonderful to have three great salts to choose from.  This is another compliment that leans towards opulence.  The variety of such a diverse use of amazing ingredients that are organic adds to further the opulence.  Good health is when everything is flowing the way it was meant to be…using the best of what is available.

Everyday at seven, the chef gets offered the best of the best and worships it.  With his exquisite love of cooking, your food becomes indescribably delicious.  In spite of this, the menu changes almost every day.  It depends on the ingredients the chef picks each morning.

Eating at Plumpjack is the equivalent of having a private chef who does not live in.  My dishes have so much green in them that you just gotta feel good…green is good for the heart!  Every dish is better than the last.

Plumpjack is one of those places, which are great.  Whatever mood you are in, especially those months when you’re whacking your brains out trying to figure out where you are gonna get the money for that new yacht that you have been desiring, Plumpjack can ease that stress.

Desert makes me feel very comfortable, especially when everything in the restaurant is organic.  The presentation at Plumpjack transcends fashion and it has it’s own style.  Most of the people having lunch here have been here at least two hours.  At any rate, for desert, I had bananas that updated rum on the micro muffin.  It goes right through your nose and enters your brain barrier.  No joke—the flavors are so pronounced that you can enter the original idea of the bananas and other flowing flavors…this is the true essence of Plumpjack.
