Savoury's

By A. Curatolo

The inside of Savoury’s is decorated in green mint and cherry walls.  It is extremely intimate and is owned by Mirriam Wackerman.  Mirriam looks concerned with a smile.  I say, “Don’t stress it.  I flow.”  She appreciated that.  She looks like she had four arms for a second due to all of her simultaneous multi-tasking.  Mirriam has been catering for thirty years.  Savoury’s is both fun and serious.  Mirriam moves swift and graciously like a cat as she imbues all things at Savoury’s with her special touch.

Savoury’s dances.  The young staff is local as well as the white hair.  It is very much a local place.  It is off-season and people are waiting outside.  I am sitting at Mirriam’s favorite table looking out into town.  You will like this place.  It has mountain zing and a romantic feel in a very on top of the world way…  The gold and white patterned tablecloths lend to a bit of mountain royalty…Yosemite style.  The altitude makes you hungry and thirsty.  A hat hook with a hat on it is amusing.  There is genuine happiness in the air, and the table of four next to me is laughing and having a good time.  Purple irises on some of the tables perk, “Let Dinner Be Served”.

A woman with amazing breasts is eating slowly and sensuously.  Studied enjoyment is written all over her form.  A girl around eight years old is here with her mother.  She gave me a cheek-ripping smile.  I can tell that she is hungry and she wishes she had a table.  If society were not so squared up, I would gladly give the two seats at my table to them without a problem.  The insulation of American society often causes more problems than it cures.  When I visited India, the train was full of people and some would sit on each other’s laps just out of sheer practicality.  The train rides from Bombay to Delhi as I recall lasts around twenty-four hours.  Stopping and standing that long doesn’t cut it.  Oh, excuse me; I am at Savoury’s.  Sweet laughter fills the air.  Many people have clear eyes from the fresh mountain air and water.  The water is delicious in Mariposa.  The busboy must be telepathic.  I did not finish my thought regarding that I would like more water, and he was instantly there.

It is a very busy Friday night and I decided to just showed up.  Many different varieties of birds appeared on my ride up here.  There is a natural wildlife refuge nearby.  It smells good here.  The cuisine embraces many palates.  In April, Savoury’s turned four years young. The menu is bold, while the child’s menu contains pasta and vegetarian meat items.  This is a counter of the Yosemite flakes.  It lets you know where you are and says, “We are at home where we are.”  There are some organic ingredients.  Mirriam says that this is the best organic that you can get.  The portabella mushroom appetizer stuffed with crunchy yellow and green zucchini, goat cheese, and tomatoes, is a blood warmer on this cool, March evening in Mariposa.  Portabella cooked in it’s own juices welcomes you with a feeling of nourishing home.  There is a modest, low-key wine menu that is very doable.  You have the option to bring your own bottle or, you can order one if you have a serious wine interest.

I heard in some galaxies that when some people are in close quarters, when they look, they send their special stardust to that person and they read what they are all about without talking.  Miriam, what is your feeling about Savoury’s?  Pasta pesto portabella mushrooms with asparagus and a ring of red bell pepper is well studied and has several high culinary notes.

Panna Cotta is a signature dessert.  Seasonal berries are served.  The blueberries are served today and elderberries will be served tomorrow.

Rating—Cool
