15 years and getting better, on the corner of Main and Windward in Venice, CA. A cozy intimate salon in a non-descript location of main Street. Susie has incredible insight into how to look good. She has been involved with the salon since she was sixteen (but legally 18 years, she says). Her touch, I must confirm, is like the feeling you get after a great Jacuzzi. On the matter of blow drying hair I've always thought heat was bad for your hair. Susie disagrees.
Her knowledge cannot be duplicated. Susie is super cool as she knows what she is doing with your hair. She even knows esoteric techniques such as bonding and hair extensions, a process invented in Italy. How incredible life is: someone actually studies strands of hair to see what bonds perfectly with them. Susie's bonded hair extensions last up to six months.
When you color your hair and your hair starts telling you you've earned your white and grays, Susie says, you need to think differently when it comes to care. For instance, I thought blow drying was generally bad for your hair - you know, the burn factor. But in fact blow drying relaxes the hair avoiding the frenzied mop effect that you certainly didn't have as a teenager.
Susie claims not to be a hair stylist, but rather a sculptor and painter. "I don't just color hair, I paint hair. I don't just cut hair, I sculpt hair, working on intuition with each unique individual who walks through Venice West's doors." No rules - trust intuition. Susie likes to find what resonates with her clients so they can resonate with themselves. It becomes difficult at times to communicate to a logical society, but when you feel good you attract good.
It was truly a transformative experience. This is not an understatement. Before I came into the salon I had an idea of what I wanted to see when I left. It was exactly that and more.
